Welcome to the official site of Transhumanist UK.

Transhumanist UK is a technoprogressive activist organisation.

Our vision is: harnessing the acceleration of technology – for individual empowerment, social welfare, and human transcendence.

The consequences of 21st century breakthroughs in science and technology will be profound. Whether these consequences are profoundly positive or profoundly negative is up to us – all of us – in how we anticipate and shape society’s responses.

Through general outreach and specific campaigns, Transhumanist UK:

Raises awareness of the key importance of transhumanist principles for practical matters in the UK and beyond
Promotes actions to turn transhumanist ideals from vision into reality.

The standard annual membership subscription for people joining Transhumanist UK is £25. This renews automatically every twelve months until it is cancelled.

Transhumanist UK Principles

Transhumanist UK envisions a future of sustainable superabundance for all, with the key foundations being in place by 2035.

1. Evidence, Science, and Technology

Transhumanist UK exists to improve the human and societal condition by wise use of technology, guided by the best of human values. We support policies to accelerate the creation and adoption of technologies that enhance the human condition, including but not limited to biotechnology, neurotechnology, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and other augmentations of human capabilities. We champion science and rationality. All policy we advocate will as far as possible be evidence-based rather than ideology-based. Open sharing of information is paramount.

2. Bright Green

Transhumanist UK will work toward the abolition of unnecessary and involuntary suffering across society and throughout nature. We identify as “Bright Green” in the sense of advocating the use of technology to reduce and reverse the negative impact of humanity on the life of earth, and to enable sustainable, evolving, harmonious relationships.

3. Personal Freedom, Social Justice

Transhumanist UK advocates wide personal freedoms and individual choice, in the context of strong social support for society’s weaker members. We base policy on the principle of “no one left behind” against their will. All citizens will have a right to sustenance, clothing, shelter, energy, healthcare, transport, education, entertainment, and access to information resources. We also advocate that all citizens must be able to contribute to society, in their own fashion, without blemish to their dignity or sense of self worth.

“Transhumanism” – what does it mean?

The word “transhumanism” recognises that a major transition is imminent in the human species. This is no mere change in our economic or political circumstances, but a transformation in core aspects of the human condition.

Given the acceleration of technology, humanity needs to prepare for a transition to a state of coexistence with AI systems that display superintelligence.

For a formal definition of the term, this is what philosopher Max More wrote in 1990:

“Transhumanism is a class of philosophies of life that seek the continuation and acceleration of the evolution of intelligent life beyond its currently human form and human limitations, by means of science and technology, guided by life-promoting values.”
